FAQ’s

What should I do when I come in from the rain and my leather coat is wet?

It’s easy! Put your coat on a good wide hangar and let it dry away from heat, with lots of air around it. Yes Virginia smooth leather is fine in the rain. It will recover beautifully. Sueded leathers and antelope suede are your fair weather coats. Leave them at home on the rainy days.

What makes kid gloves so special?

Most gloves you see in the stores are lamb. Lamb leather is wonderful for jackets, but not so great for gloves. Lamb leather is thicker, therefore a bit clumsy for gloves. Kid gloves are the absolute best, the high water mark in gloves and the only ones you will find at Yes Virginia…either unlined, cashmere or fur lined.

Where can you buy Yes Virginia articles?

What is tuscan lamb?

Many of the unlined, luxuriously warm coats at Yes Virginia are made from tuscan lamb. This is a specialty product from Italy that is half goat, half lamb. It has the warmth of a traditional shearling coat with the lightness and silkiness of goat.

What is nutria?

Nutria is a beaver like rodent found in Latin America. They are most destructive creatures that burrow into the underside of the riverbanks, causing the trees that support the banks to die. They have been deemed an environmental hazard so must be culled. The beauty is that the people who trap them use the meat before selling the skins.

What makes nutria so soft?

The nutria has 3 layers of fur. (similar to the beaver) The outer guard layer is very coarse and hard and is always removed. The second layer has a bright iridescent sheen that is normally removed, but sometimes left on for a shiny look. The incredibly soft inner layer is the one that causes people to hug themselves whenever they put on a nutria coat!

Where does leather originate?

Argentina has a close relationship with Italy with leather production. Much of the lamb is shipped from Argentina to Italy for tanning (they still are the best!) and then returned to Argentina for production.

My leather pants are stretching. What should I do?

Again, this is easy! An iron is to leather like the dryer is to jeans. Seriously! There is only one way to iron leather though. The iron MUST BE DRY- NO STEAM! Always cover the leather with a dry cloth and use a dry iron on medium heat.
